New capability tests at VMBO/MBO level

The WPI, together with one other test, is the best-assessed test in the Netherlands in the field of HRM.

By broadening our approach, you are able to map more accurately the intellect level for VMBO/MBO secondary school positions. Read more below about these tests and review a sample question.

Block Counting (TPT)

Block Counting measures abstract analytical capability and spatial insight. Each test consists of a figure comprised of a number of blocks. The number of blocks (including those hidden from view) need to be counted and shaded. Block Counting has been provisionally graded in norm group VMBO (N = 84). Verbal Analogies L (TPT)

The Verbal Analogies L test measures verbal analytical capability and is a simpler variation of Verbal Analogies already available in the Toolkit. The idea behind this new test is to discover the connection between words. Each test consists of three words and a question mark. There is a connection between the two words in the two top squares. A word needs to be inserted in the question mark square that has the same connection to the word in the bottom-left square as those in the two top squares. Verbal Analogies L has been provisionally graded in norm group VMBO/MBO (N = 86). Click here for more information about this test.

L Figures (TPT)

The L Figures test measures the ability to come to logical conclusions with the help of information offered in a visual (non-verbal) manner. The test consists of abstract figures in which a logical patterm needs to be discovered. This test has been provisionally graded in norm group (N = 101). Statistical characteristics

Despite the fact that the selected norm groups are relatively small, the reliability of these tests is highly acceptable. The L Figures test has an alpha of a surprising 0.92, Verbal Analogies L an alpha of 0.85 and Block Counting an alpha of 0.76. This is the reason why we have already published these tests in order to collect data to expand the norm group even further.
